The Reform UK leader Accuses Educators of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Race Issues
The political figure stated that teachers would go on strike shortly after a Reform UK election victory, accusing them of “poisoning our kids” by instructing children that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and white children oppressors.
At a gathering for a private US Christian college, the politician expressed his perspective on the UK education system, claiming that the “radical left-wing” had “taken over schooling”.
“I expect a teachers’ strike very quickly after securing a victory,” Farage commented in response to questions.
“They are corrupting young minds. They instruct children to be ashamed of their country. They are telling an eight-year-old black child that he is a victim and a white child of the same age that he is a perpetrator. They are dividing us, not uniting us. They promote this harmful mindset.”
In response to these assertions, the head of a major education union dismissed the idea that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “nonsense”. He pointed out that any strikes must relate to educators’ working conditions, and doubted whether Reform would attack these immediately upon entering government.
“Farage has built his public life on coded rhetoric and now, like Trump, he is targeting educators and their organizations for a fight,” Kebede stated.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. Neither I nor our union – advocate such divisive theories as he claims … Should he become prime minister he would sell out our public services, including education … and the outcome would be catastrophic for education and children.”
Reform, which tops surveys by a significant margin, has not set out much detail on its educational plans and seems not to have appointed an education spokesperson.
Nonetheless, Farage’s remarks indicated the group would reform the system and the curriculum. Farage declared: “We face an enormous task with schooling – absolutely herculean. And, it won’t happen quickly; it will take us years, years to turn this around.”
Farage expressed that gen Z was more open to critical thinking, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Paying tribute to Charlie Kirk, he commented: “My goal for schooling is to foster independent thought – to educate individuals that there are two points of view and you make up your own mind as opposed to current practices where one is virtuous and one is evil. This is a huge undertaking in the UK and US.”
Reform has previously clashed with a major educators’ organization, after Kebede called the party “far right and racist” and described the leader as “a cheap imitation”.
Farage has accused the union head with being “an avowed radical” … someone who is absolutely determined that our children should be poisoned through education, their minds should be poisoned about everything to do with this country” and has argued that the union is trying to indoctrinate youth opposed to his party.
Almost one million people are employed in education in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The major education union has about 450,000 members.
National strikes over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 caused widespread disruption in schools and extensive missed instruction for students.
During the American gathering, Farage also vowed to promote the online educational material of the institution in the UK. He said organizations like it were “key to resistance”, adding that: “I am serious. I’ll assist attract vast numbers of youth to these educational programs. I make that commitment tonight and I’ll do that.”
The college, a small private Christian college, offers free courses. According to its online description: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is necessary for personal happiness and to perpetuate the blessings of civil and religious liberty. The college furnishes these beautiful courses for free to all who wish to learn.”
