The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.

It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the commencement of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The pig received a pardon in a ritual at the restaurant.

The animal, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The trend became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
