The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Track
The Mighty Nein, the newest animated adventure by the beloved role-playing group, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals kicking ass and taking names, while also hinting at multiple agonizing backstories for key figures including the voice actor's mage Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.
All in all, the intro appears amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was lost in the music selection.
This sequence employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional composition created by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. This piece from the official score of the same name, the second release put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will love its presence.
Personally, The series' intro doesn't quite capture the hype and excitement that was part of the second campaign's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when co-founder the performer wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.
Including singing from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the track was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the follow-up series at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you start an installment of adventurous fun.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the same chords for me. It's an impressive piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I feel that its mood is a little off.
Naturally, Critical Role has already said that the series will have a few surprises and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its opening appears as among these.
This animated adventure will be released on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait until then, or want a head start to get to know the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are available on the audio platform and YouTube.
