The Blue Jays Earn World Series Meeting Versus defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder previously helped the Astros claiming the championship in the 2017 season.

Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their first championship series following 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the ALCS.

Behind 3-1, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh frame, leading the Toronto squad in the majors to a 4-3 series triumph in the series. They will now face the Dodgers, holders of the reigning title, in the upcoming championship.

"I'm thrilled for our team, Toronto, our country," commented Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that won the 2017 title. "This is such an amazing experience."

Springer has now slugged 23 October home runs, making him third in history behind Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"I can't think of another player on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that spot other than George Springer with his post-season brilliance," said manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, are still the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.

Manager Dan Wilson said "without a doubt that it's painful" after his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their work in the campaign.

"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we ended up on the wrong side of this one," he continued.

Toronto secured the championship on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and will host the Dodgers in the opener on this Friday.
