Previous British Broadcasting Corporation Consultants Face Parliamentary Questioning In the Wake of Assertions of Partiality in Leaked Memo
We start with questions from Tory Member of Parliament the committee chair, that chairs the committee.
She commences by giving context to the disclosed memo prepared by Michael Prescott and released in a daily publication.
"It is not my wish for the British Broadcasting Corporation tilting this way or that way, I simply desire it neutral, impartial and equitable," he says.
When asked if he believes the British Broadcasting Corporation is institutionally biased, Prescott responds: "Absolutely not. To be clear, tons of stuff the British Broadcasting Corporation does is world class - including factual and fictional content."
Nevertheless, he states: "There remains real work that needs to be done at the BBC."
A further former external British Broadcasting Corporation consultant interviewed by the committee, Caroline Daniel, says she takes the BBC very seriously and that it operates a "persistent practice and lively discussion" on evolving and intricate subjects.
"Whether the BBC was ready to conduct a thorough discussion and debate and take action?" she questions. "As I see it, affirmative, they were."
