Members of an Italian family of thieves who stole over £1.2m worth of items, among them from ex- NUFC forward Isak, have been ordered to return only £1 per person.

Siblings Valentino and Giacomo Nikolov, their female sibling Jela Jovanovic and her child Charlie Jovanovic travelled to the northeastern of England to raid three houses in April 2024.

The group of four were imprisoned for from six and 10 years in 2025.

At a proceeds of crime hearing at the court, Jela Jovanovic and the brothers Nikolov were instructed to repay £1 per person while Charlie Jovanovic must pay over a thousand pounds.

Details of the Break-ins

The judge was told the group arrived by ferry in the UK on 27 March 2024 and used a RV as their "base of operations", which they stationed at a service area and Durham service stations while utilizing another car to search for properties and carry out burglaries.

On March 31 they stole over £1m of items such as high-end fashion, handbags, jewellery and a honor from a house on Clayton Road in Jesmond, while the owners were away.

The following night, the crew broke into a home on a private road in Whitburn, South Tyneside, and took luxury bags, valuables and footwear valued at more than one hundred thousand pounds.

After scouting out Newcastle United's training ground for two days, they then acted at the home of Swedish player Alexander Isak in Darras Hall, Ponteland on 4 April, stealing £10,000 in cash, sixty-eight thousand pounds worth of jewelry and the striker's one hundred twenty thousand pound luxury car.

The gang, who were portrayed by prosecutors as experienced touring thieves, wore gloves and face coverings, switched their phones on silent as they approached their targets and attached a number plate, which had been taken from a auto shop in Chester-le-Street, on to their car with elastic bands.

They were arrested in the Birmingham on 13 April.

Legal Hearings and Sentencing

Valentino had pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to burglary but was found guilty by the court, while his family members had all submitted guilty pleas to the same charge.

At the criminal gains hearing, prosecutor the prosecution said each of the burglars had profited from their crimes to the value of £1,266,285.93, which was determined by what the victims said they had lost.

But Charlie was the sole individual deemed to have any money that could be "realised", specifically over a thousand pounds which had previously been confiscated by authorities, the judge heard, with 14 days to be served in prison if he failed to pay.

The other three had no money or assets so were directed to pay a nominal fee of £1 each, with seven days in incarceration the result if the money was not submitted.

Judge Spragg said if they were found with property in the future, "for example operating Italy in a sports car or possessing a home", the prosecution could seek new proceedings to "recover the amount due".
